Christian Care for Families

Diocese of Mauritius

Theme: 2015-2017

The Joy of the Lord is our strength Nehemiah 8:10

The Republic of Mauritius is an Island country that spans less than 1,860 square kilometers (781 sq miles) and hosts a little over 1,324,493 inhabitants, and also includes Rodrigues Island with a population of about 40,000.

The Mothers’ Union has been active in Mauritius since 1924.

The Diocese of Mauritius has today 250 members in Mothers’ Union.

The organization continues to demonstrate the Christian faith in action both in parishes and in the society.

We play an active role in the church. Many members have chose to be deacons, lay-readers, counselors, animators of alpha courses, and more.

About Us:

We exist to reach out in love and service. Mothers’ Union is an international Christian membership charity that aims to demonstrate the Christian faith in action through the transformation of communities worldwide.

We are working with people of all faiths to promote stable marriage, family life and the protection of children through praying, enabling and campaigning.

Our aims and objectives are:

To promote and support married life

To encourage parents in their role to develop the faith of their children

To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service

To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children

To help those whose family life has met with adversity

Our vision:

Our vision is of a world where God’s love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships. This is not a vague hope, but a goal we actively pursue by praying, campaigning and enabling.

Our values:

Mothers’ Union is a Christian mission organisation working with people of all faiths and none.

Mothers’ Union is firmly rooted in a voluntary ethos centered on mutual respect and collaboration.

The MU Sisters in Mauritius and Rodrigues continue to support and encourage families especially Families facing adversity through national and local initiatives.

We are working actively in the society in spite of the multicultural population.

One of the activity of some branches is to offer meals to needy families of any ethnics and racial communities.

Members are motivated to support their communities by visiting old age homes, children’s shelters, families in need, sick people and prisoners and their families. Members tackle these by providing individual counselling, praying for families concerned and supporting them.

Matthew 5:14-16. You are The Light of the World

Mo fami mo responsabilité

My family my responsibility

Prayers is the center of our Mission as MU members. We are proud to be part of this great Family of about four million of members worldwide.

Shirley Gully, the MU Diocesan President 2015-2017, has a priority to contribute to the happiness of All Christians and non-Christians of the world. Together with all MU Sisters in Mauritius and Rodrigues, we will continue to be the salt (preservative) and light (guidance) of the world in prayers and actions.

Mothers’ Union Diocese of Mauritius works in close relationship with The Most Rev Archbishop Ian Ernest in our Journey to serve our Lord Jesus Christ.
