Alpha in Mauritius

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? Why and how to read the bible? Why and how to pray? How can we have faith? Who is the Holy Spirit? What does the Holy Spirit do? How to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Does God heal today?  How can I resist the devil? What about church? These are some of the burning questions which are raised on Alpha.

Alpha was first developed in the Anglican church of Holy Trinity, Brompton in London and is now run all round the world in many languages and in different locations, whether in churches, universities, homes, cafes – you name it. Everyone is welcome to Alpha. Rev Nicky Gumbel has been the key figure spearheading the development of Alpha around the world.

In general, there are three key things in Alpha: food, a talk and good conversation around a table.

Over the years a number of products have been developed around Alpha in response to the needs of various segments of the population. Apart from Alpha Classic, we now have Youth Alpha, Student Alpha, Prison Alpha, the Marriage course, Marriage preparation course, parenting for children, parenting for teenagers, Alpha in the work place, Alpha for the armed forces, Alpha for ex offenders, Worship Central, Alpha Prayer.

Alpha has been running in Mauritius in several churches, including the Anglican and the Roman Catholic churches, over the last few years.
