Peace and Shalom and Shanthi

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.Galatians 5:22-23

Is love a power ??? or is it not rather a fruit , as says Galatians 5 :22 … on the tree of a fertile life or even , a source of light illuminating the darkness of our soul ??? Rock star J Hendrix and Politician M Gandhi quote ..’ when the power of love overcomes the love of power , the world will know peace .’  Hendrix died of drug overdose at 28 yrs and Gandhi died at 79 yrs assassinated . They had artistic and political ideals which came to end as they had a premature death in their quest for peace .

Peace is the fruit of the Spirit which is harvested in our lives as our souls find Peace Shalom’s holiness , completeness and prosperity . The Hebrew word Shalom is popularly translated to mean peace but is only a small part of the meaning of the word . It is used as both a greeting and farewell, shalom has wealthy meaning in Hebrew. “Peace” is an accurate translation of the term, but shalom implies more than lack of conflict. shalom means “completeness, soundness, welfare, peace.” It is translated “success” and used as part of an inspired blessing in 1 Chronicles 12:18. Shalom is applicable to an external peace between two entities—such as individuals or nations—and to an internal sense of peace within the individual.

Its political meanings include “freedom from civil disorder,” from Old Fr. pais (11c., Fr. paix), from Latin pacem “treaty of peace, tranquility, meaning “absence or cessation of war or hostility” is attested .. When peace is absent adversely there is war, killing and death . ‘ Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’..Lord Acton . And no peace is to be found where military evil powers tread spreading fear everywhere and Atilla the Hun exemplifies such monsters in his arrogant words. ‘There, where I have passed, the grass will never grow again and the inevitable Truth valiantly peacefully responds : NO WORRIES Atilla ! Grass will grow again ! and Atilla ate fresh grass like Nabuchadnezar : He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. Dan 4:33

Ephesians 6:12 – For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Throughout history when the powerful political military leader having a perverse unscrupulous superiority taste of their destructive brutal and violent absolute power , like Nazi  Aryanful Hitler and the Imperialist Japanese  etc., during World War II brought about deaths in thousands and millions through ethnic cleansing , genocide , extermination , racism , hate , torture , dehumanisation etc. Extensive War cemeteries remember the dead soldiers and civilians with glorious epitaphs and tearful inscriptions or just plain headstones for they are unnamed. About 6 million Jews were denuded and exterminated with poisonous gas , Japanese mercilessly slaughtered 300 thousand Chinese in Nanjing city like sheep in a slaughter house pre-WWII, and 80 millions were killed globally . The conceited arrogant perpetrators who so gladly enjoyed killing and seeing others tortured finally shamed by defeat or nuclear bombs , committed suicide , Hitler in his bunker and many hara-kiri Japanese soldiers disgraced ritually self-disemboweled . Peace returned costing millions of deaths due to the destructive love of power.
Ephesians 6:11 – Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the assaults of the devil.

Providentially or sadly , political orientations of ruling powers or governments are the guiding rudders of our societies. The love of Power of the past colonisers kept their colonies subdued and they squashed any revolt or challenge of their authority with bloodshed . From British Hong Kong China, India, Africa, America, Mauritius etc  colonies were brutally  subjugated . For example , a controversial new history of the Sepoys Indian Mutiny, which broke out 150 years ago and is acknowledged to have been the greatest challenge to any European power in the 19th century, claims that the British pursued a murderous decade-long campaign to wipe out millions of people who dared rise up against them.

In War of Civilisations: India AD 1857, Amaresh Misra, a writer and historian based in Mumbai, argues that there was an “untold holocaust” which caused the deaths of almost 10 million people over 10 years beginning in 1857.

With the East India Company , the British had gained direct or indirect control over almost all of India. British India, consisting of the directly-ruled British presidencies and provinces, contained the most populous and valuable parts of the British Empire and thus became known as “the jewel in the British crown”

In 1876  Benjamin Disraeli  made  Queen Victoria Empress of India.  After 90 yrs of colonisation, the independence movement attained its objective with the independence of Pakistan and India on 14 and 15 August 1947 respectively. Conservative elements in England consider the independence of India to be the moment that the British Empire ceased to be a world power, following Curzon’s dictum that, “while we hold on to India, we are a first-rate power. If we lose India, we will decline to a third-rate power.”… today in 2017 ,this former fragmented British colonial power is caught in the BREXIT European Union imbroglio and Modern India is a world superpower with the largest democracy. NAMASTE !!!

In Mauritius the Belle Vue Harel massacre took place on 27th September 1943. During this terrible event, four sugarcane workers, including Anjalay Coopen, were killed by the Coloniser as revolts were savagely squashed with bloodshed . Today in 2017 , The largest Mauritian stadium is named after Anjalay Coopen as her memory as an icon of justice will endure as says Lord Acton : History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul.

So our societies carry the blessed prominent scars of the past cruel history but by God’s grace  new nations , new technologies and new intercultural interactive dialogues are fermenting and reformatting the scenery  . Terrorism is rife and upsetting the developed countries .. and the Shalom Call unites those who respond positively ..and peace knocks at our doors.

Peace begins with a smile. – Mother Teresa

Everyday when the glorious peaceful Sun nuclear-fusion-powered , rises in the morning , a new multidimentional potentially creative day unfolds gradually before our lives . God’s peace shalom invites us lovingly to share the abundant life with one and all. We can choose foolishness ,negligence and irresponsibility as sin and the Devil befriends and woos us .. or .. learn new wisdom , new wholeness and new harmony as the Holy Trinity sends the Holy Spirit to anoint and refill us . And soon, the constant sun will set with magnificent kaleidoscopic colours as it disappears in the horizon ..So we decide every morning …

The Golden Rule

12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Peace be with you ! Peace be in you ! Peace be around you !

The Simple Path
Silence is Prayer
Prayer is Faith
Faith is Love
Love is Service
The Fruit of Service is Peace”
― Mother Teresa

PRAYER

Heavenly Father , let your Holy Spirit fill me with your peace that surpasses all understanding and transform my heart and mind that I may choose life – the abundant life you offer to all your children. Give me courage to always choose what is good, true, and just and to reject whatever is evil, false and foolish, and contrary to your Holy Will . May your Peace-Shalom-Shanthi synergise , harmonise and interconnect me with all your awesome creation . Amen
